DWIGHT KIEFERT – FAILED LEADERSHIP
Kiefert voted against HB 1446 – a bill that would have provided property tax relief for North Dakota families.
Kiefert voted to keep the failed educational scheme known as Common Core (HB 1432) in ND schools. This kept North Dakota students and teachers trapped in these failing educational standards, which have resulted in declining math and reading proficiencies, and destroyed local control.
Kiefert voted against HCR 3007, sponsored by Republicans during the 67th legislative session. It was a concurrent resolution terminating the state of emergency in North Dakota declared by Burgum. Kiefert voted to continue to harm businesses and families with unnecessary restrictions during the pandemic that did nothing to to actually protect those at risk.
Kiefert has voted for and sponsored dangerous “animal rights” bills (HB 1301, HB 1445) that would put all ND ranchers in peril if passed. North Dakota Farm Bureau opposed these bills:
• HB 1301, relating to bonding for the cost of care for animals seized by law-enforcement. Sponsored by Kiefert at the 65th Legislative Assembly. Bill failed with 14 yeas and 76 nays. This was an extreme bill that would endanger ND ranchers and further incentivize the seizure of privately held animals for monetary gain.
• HB 1445, sponsored by Democrats During the 66th legislative session, a bill to create a new section of the North Dakota century code relating to prohibiting an individual convicted of animal cruelty from purchasing or adopting animals. Bill failed with 9 yeas and 80 nays, Kiefert voted with Democrats. If this bill would have passed, It would put ND ranchers at the mercy of radical animal rights activists who may falsely accuse them of wrongdoing.
Kiefert voted against HB 1170 Asset Forfeiture Reform, which protects due process rights.
Kiefert voted for SB 2320, the controversial Needle Exchange Program, to make it easier for drug addiction to spread.
